The journey out of Egypt obviously begins in Egypt. The story begins with the familiar Sunday school story of Moses in a basket of reeds and being drawn out of the water by Pharaoh’s daughter. Obviously God’s hand was at work from the very beginning to save Moses before the rest of the Israelites were saved.
From there, things take a quick turn downhill as Moses takes matters into his own hands and kills an Egyptian in an attempt to aid a fellow Israelite. Moses flees for his life and will be out of Egypt for the next forty years. At the age of eighty, God calls Moses back to free the Israelites. Moses offers many excuses but reluctantly gives in to God’s will. A great confrontation with Pharaoh will occur over an extended period of time before the Israelites will eventually be free.
